Community activity center is also a storm shelter
The western area of the city, including Lien Chieu district and 4 northern communes of Hoa Vang district (Hoa Lien, Hoa Bac, Hoa Son and Hoa Ninh), is a large area with a geographical location far from the city center, making it difficult for local people to access cultural centers and large entertainment areas of the city. This is also an area with a large number of workers and temporary residents from other provinces, so the demand for cultural institutions is very high.
Last October, the Da Nang City Labor Federation held the inauguration ceremony of the An Ngai Dong Village Cultural House, Hoa Son Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City with a total investment of more than 1.5 billion VND. The project includes the following items: Newly built 1-storey building, toilets, panel system, slogans, curtains, sound system and other equipment. When completed and put into use, this project will help the people of An Ngai Dong Village in general, and workers and laborers in the self-managed workers' groups in the boarding house area in particular, to have a spacious and solid construction for meetings and community activities.
Mr. Le Van Dai - Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City Labor Federation - said: "Hoa Son Commune is the area with the most self-managed workers' groups in Da Nang City, so there are many workers and temporary laborers residing in this area. The An Ngai Dong Village Cultural House will also be a safe shelter for people and temporary workers during the rainy and stormy season."
Lack of cultural and sports centers in the West
The western area of Da Nang City is home to 8 universities, colleges and 5 high-tech parks, and large industrial parks of the city. In addition, the area is also being planned to build 2 new industrial parks and industrial clusters. While other districts in the city have been planned to invest in building at least 2 district-level Cultural and Sports Centers, Lien Chieu District only has 1.
“Currently, the number of playgrounds for children in the district is still small compared to the actual demand. Lien Chieu is a district with many workers and students coming to work, study and live, so the need for community playgrounds is very high,” said Mr. Huynh Thanh Binh, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Lien Chieu district.
Previously, in mid-2023, the People's Council of Da Nang City approved the project of a multi-purpose Cultural, Sports and Performance Center serving workers, students and pupils in the western region in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang. The project has a total investment of 87 billion VND, invested by the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Civil and Industrial Works. The project of a multi-purpose Cultural, Sports and Performance Center serving workers, students and pupils in the western region of the city is committed to starting construction in August 2024.
However, the Department of Planning and Investment of Da Nang City said that the fire prevention and fighting approval process must be revised by the reviewing agency to ensure fire prevention and fighting standards for the project, so the time for making revisions and approving fire prevention and fighting is longer than expected. The Department of Planning and Investment of Da Nang City requested the Department of Construction to promptly complete the Construction Design Appraisal Results Report.
