New home, joy before Independence Day
In the last days of August, when many families are busy preparing for National Day September 2nd, joy is also present in the newly completed houses. For union members in difficult circumstances in Lao Cai, it is joy after many years of anxiously running from rain and sun...
As a union member in difficult circumstances at Yamazaki Vietnam Co., Ltd., Ms. Vi Thi Thuy Ha once did not dare to think that her family would one day own a solid house. But with the support of the Trade Union organization, that seemingly distant dream has become a reality.
My family is completing the house before Independence Day Tet. From now on, every rainy and storm season, the family will no longer worry about carrying their children to stay at midnight" - Ms. Ha shared.
That joy is also present in the new house of Mr. Do Cao Toi, belonging to the grassroots Trade Union of Yen Bai Construction Materials Joint Stock Company.
After many years of living in precarious rented accommodation, his family has a stable place to live. The house is about 60m2 wide, with a total construction cost of more than 200 million VND, of which the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation supported 50 million VND.
In the house still smelling of new mortar, Mr. Toi could not hide his emotion. For her family, this is not only a construction project but also a special gift before the Independence Day. "The support of the Trade Union makes me even more appreciate my work and have more motivation to try" - the male worker expressed.
Solid roof in the rainy and storm season
In the highlands of Lao Cai, the story of a safe roof is becoming even more urgent as natural disasters continuously occur.
In September 2024, the circulation of storm No. 3 swept away the entire house and property of Ms. Vu Thi Tien's family, a medical staff member at Nam Chac Ethnic Minority Boarding Primary and Secondary School.
After the natural disaster, her family was almost penniless. The house that used to be a place to shelter the whole family was only left with losses. In the most difficult time, the Trade Union's affection became a support when the grassroots Trade Union supported 50 million VND.
Along with bank loans and the help of relatives, Ms. Tien and her husband rebuilt the house on the land given by their parents. Each brick and cement bag placed not only contributes to creating a new house but also carries the sharing of colleagues and the Trade Union organization.
There were times when I thought I would have to stay temporarily for many more years. When the Trade Union supported me with 50 million VND, I felt like I had another boost to be determined to build a house. That support was very precious, because it came at the time when my family was most difficult" - Ms. Tien confided.
According to Mr. Phan Huy Cuong - Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation, with more than 41,000 union members, taking care of life, protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of workers is always identified by Trade Union levels as a key task. In which, the "Trade Union Home" program has become one of the activities rich in humanity, directly supporting union members in difficult housing circumstances.
In the period 2023 - 2025, Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation has supported the renovation and repair of 262 Trade Union Solidarity Houses, with a total budget of more than 10 billion VND. In 2026, the Provincial Labor Federation set a target to support the construction of 11 new houses for union members in particularly difficult circumstances.
“We determine that taking care of union members should not only stop at visiting and supporting them when they are in difficulty, but must also aim for fundamental solutions to help workers have conditions to stabilize their lives. A solid house is even more meaningful for union members in mountainous areas, where they often face floods and landslides. When they have safe accommodation, workers will feel secure in their work, attached to agencies, units, and businesses,” said the Vice Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation.
