From about 7-8 am on August 31, the area in front of Hoa Lo Prison Relic was already crowded. Crowds of visitors lined up to wait for procedures to visit, including many families, groups of young friends and children.
The increased number of visitors makes the outer area and the internal sightseeing spaces of the relic always crowded. Crowds continuously move through the ticket buying area to the display areas.
Mr. Pham Toan (Nghe An) said that his family chose the Hoa Lo Prison Relic in their visit to Hanoi on National Day September 2nd because this is a place associated with many historical milestones. He wants his children to witness firsthand the space, artifacts and documents preserved at the relic to better understand the nation's history.
Arriving at the place at about 9 am, I was surprised because the line of people was very crowded, from many different ages coming here to visit. Although they had to wait quite a long time, everyone was very eager to get inside to visit the relic," Mr. Toan shared.
Inside Hoa Lo Prison, many areas became cramped due to the increased number of visitors. However, people and tourists basically maintained order, moving through each display space in turn.
The historical relic of Hoa Lo Prison is located at No. 1 Hoa Lo Street, Cua Nam Ward, Hanoi. The prison was built by the French colonialists in 1896 and used to be a place to detain many patriotic and revolutionary soldiers of Vietnam.
In the period 1964-1973, part of Hoa Lo Prison was used to detain American pilots. Currently, the remaining relic is preserved, displaying many artifacts, documents and spaces associated with the history of Hoa Lo Prison.
The remaining relic is currently preserved with a system of prison cells, artifacts, documents and display spaces, becoming a place to help people and tourists learn about the history of Vietnam's revolutionary struggle.
Hoa Lo Prison relic is open to visitors from 8 am to 5 pm all days of the week, no lunch break and no holiday or Tet. Daytime entrance ticket price is 50,000 VND/person.
Students, elderly people aged 60 and over, people with severe disabilities and people subject to social policies are entitled to a 50% discount, equivalent to 25,000 VND/ticket. Children under 16 years old, people with particularly severe disabilities, people with meritorious services to the revolution and members of some associations and liaison committees are free of charge for sightseeing according to regulations.
