According to Mr. Dinh Sy Dat - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoan Kiem Ward, Chairman of the Hoan Kiem Ward Trade Union, this model aims to encourage union members, civil servants, public employees, and workers of grassroots trade unions in the ward to carry out waste classification at source; reduce the amount of waste discharged into the environment.
Right at the launch ceremony, not only officials, union members, and workers but also a large number of people in the area brought recyclable waste to exchange for gifts. These types of waste are quantified by environmental workers, converted into money to exchange for gifts such as potted plants, toothbrushes, towels, toothpaste... This is not only an environmental protection activity, collecting recyclable waste but also raising community awareness about environmental protection, especially in sorting and treating waste at source. The model is also an opportunity for each official, union member, civil servant, public employee and worker of Hoan Kiem ward to show the spirit of solidarity, joining hands to build Hoan Kiem ward to become increasingly civilized, bright - green - clean - beautiful and environmentally friendly.
Present at the launch ceremony of the Green Saturday model - exchanging recyclable waste for gifts of May, Ms. Do Thi Minh Tan - Kindergarten 1-6 - said that for a long time the teachers of the School have been propagating and working with parents to collect and use recyclable waste. Cardboard boxes, bottles of dish soap... are used to make house models, school supplies. The teachers also teach children how to utilize recyclable items to make toys... According to Ms. Tan, each step will make children aware of sorting waste and using recyclable waste as early as they are young.
Ms. Tan said that the awareness of environmental protection will be strongly promoted daily when there is the "Green Saturday" model - exchanging recycled waste for gifts organized by the Hoan Kiem Ward Trade Union. "This activity is even more meaningful as it aims to celebrate the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, because it awakens in us - Trade Union members - a sense of responsibility to the community, to the Trade Union organization in the role of a member of the Fatherland Front" - Ms. Tan said.
The Green Saturday model - exchanging recyclable waste for gifts organized by the Hoan Kiem Ward Trade Union will be maintained on the last Saturday of the months of the year and is a practical activity to celebrate the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress.
