As more than 100 workers of Hoang Thi Loan Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company (Nghe An) focused on requesting payment of severance pay, Vinh City Labor Federation promptly coordinated with relevant agencies to intervene, connecting business owners and employees to organize a dialogue.

The trade union takes action in a timely manner

On January 15, Hoang Thi Loan Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company issued a decision to terminate labor contracts with 114/387 workers due to difficult operations and surplus labor. The company announced that it will pay workers a monthly severance pay, from 1-3 million VND per month, until the allowance is exhausted. On February 14, the company paid the first installment, each person received 2 million VND.

Disagreeing with the above payment method, on the morning of February 17, nearly 100 workers gathered in front of the company gate to ask the leaders to resolve the matter. They recommended that the company pay one-time severance pay, in accordance with legal regulations and the Collective Labor Agreement signed in 2023.

In response to the above incident, Chairman of Vinh City Labor Federation - Mr. Thai Le Cuong and union officials coordinated with relevant units to quickly take action, directly grasp the situation, listen to the thoughts and aspirations of workers.

Through the survey, workers reported that the company has not held a meeting to collect consensus on termination of employment but has issued a decision to terminate employment for workers from January 12, 2025. Many workers have difficult circumstances, low income, and are the main breadwinners in their families, so they face difficulties when they are laid off. Workers also believe that the Company's payment of surplus benefits, January 2025 salary, 13th month bonus and severance pay is not satisfactory. Therefore, they requested the company to organize a dialogue and pay severance pay in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Law.

With the connection from the Trade Union, Hoang Thi Loan Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company has agreed to soon organize a Dialogue Conference between employers and employees to promptly resolve workers' recommendations. After being explained by the working group, all workers dispersed and agreed to wait for the results of the meeting between the workers' representative and the Company's leaders.

Continue to connect, negotiate

At the dialogue held on February 20, the representative of the workers continued to request the company to pay a one-time severance allowance so that they could stabilize their lives and find a new job. However, the company said that due to financial difficulties, it was not possible to pay more than 3.1 billion VND to 114 employees at one time, but would pay them gradually every month.

The company also proposed to accept workers who wanted to return to work, but the workers' representative did not accept.

Representatives of Nghe An authorities requested the company to arrange funds to pay severance pay in accordance with legal regulations. However, the company confirmed that it was facing difficulties so it could not arrange funds to pay in one go.

Paying severance pay in the form of " installment" not only affects the current life of workers but also causes difficulties in planning the future and finding new jobs. Workers hope that the authorities will soon intervene, ensure their legitimate rights, and help them overcome this difficult period.

"The demand of workers is legitimate, however, the current production and business situation of Hoang Thi Loan Textile Joint Stock Company is extremely difficult, unable to pay workers according to regulations. As union officials, we understand and share the difficulties of both sides. In the coming time, the Trade Union will continue to connect and negotiate so that the two sides can find the most satisfactory and reasonable solution" - Chairman of Vinh Thai City Labor Federation Le Cuong said.
