Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan in Hanh Bo village, Nam Phuong Tien commune, Chuong My district, is a worker at C.P Livestock Joint Stock Company, Xuan Mai Hanoi branch. She has 3 school-age children, her husband is a freelancer so his income is unstable. Almost all of the living expenses of the couple, 3 children and the money to take care of her mother-in-law who is in poor health depend on her monthly income of about 10 million VND. Her family's life has not been completely stable after the flood 49 days ago, now her residence continues to be submerged in water due to the impact of storm No. 3. Ms. Lan said that the entire garden was submerged in water; the house was also flooded; all fruit trees and crops were lost.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan is one of five union members and workers in Chuong My district who are in difficult circumstances and affected by storm No. 3 and received support from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on the afternoon of September 15. She shared that the affection and care of the union is the motivation for her to overcome difficulties, through which she also sees her responsibility towards the union organization and the company.
“Especially, every time we receive support from the Union, my mother-in-law and my husband are very touched. I am proud and grateful to the Union organization,” said Ms. Lan.
On the afternoon of September 15, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu presented the VGCL's support plaque to union members and workers affected by storm No. 3 with the amount of 1 billion VND to the Standing Representative of the Hanoi City Labor Confederation, including 200 million VND to support workers and workers in Chuong My district. Here, the trade union of Nam Phuong Tien commune, Chuong My district also received 10 million VND and a gift box worth 1.5 million VND in support from the VGCL. There were 3 union members and workers of Sai Son Cement Joint Stock Company and 2 union members and workers of CP Livestock Joint Stock Company, Xuan Mai Hanoi branch (including Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan) received support of 3 million VND in cash and a gift bag worth 350,000 VND each.
Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu and leaders of the Hanoi Labor Confederation hope that union members, workers and grassroots unions will strive to overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives. Like Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, union members and workers receiving support were all touched by the attention of unions at all levels, especially the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Hanoi Labor Confederation. This activity not only demonstrates the responsibility but also the affection of the union organization for union members and workers at a time when they are facing difficulties.
