The model of "Self-managed worker boarding house" in Can Tho City not only ensures security and order but also brings many benefits, taking care of both the material and spiritual needs of workers.

Safe living environment

With more than 10 years of participating in the "Workers' Shelter Self-management Group", Ms. Hoang Thi Luan - owner of a boarding house in Tra Noc ward (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) - expressed her satisfaction with the practical results that the model brings.

Recalling the early days of the Can Tho Export Processing and Industrial Zones (ECZs) Trade Union and Tra Noc Ward Police mobilizing to participate in the model, Ms. Luan considers herself a bridge to convey information to workers, contributing to maintaining a safe and orderly living environment.

"Thanks to the enthusiastic guidance of the Trade Union and the locality, I not only communicate information about security, order, fire prevention and fighting but also help workers clearly understand their rights and obligations. Thanks to that, the boarding house is always safe, everyone is united, supports each other, and lives and works with peace of mind" - Ms. Luan recounted.

Mr. Le Thanh Tan - a worker in Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - shared that thanks to the self-management group model, his family has been able to live and work with peace of mind for nearly 4 years. "Whenever I go to work, especially overtime, I don't worry about security, property theft or fire. The boarding house has additional cameras, and the homeowner and the surrounding workers are friendly and enthusiastic. Even my daughter was taken care of by the landlord" - Mr. Tan said.

Sharing the same thought, Ms. Lam Kim Cac - a worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park (Can Tho City) - said that since entering Ms. Luan's boarding house, she has never encountered property theft or disorder.

Warming the hearts of workers far from home

Not only stopping at ensuring security and order, creating a safe and healthy living environment, but the self-management group model also helps workers enjoy many benefits.

Recalling the most recent visit by the Union on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, Mr. Tan was both happy and warm. For Mr. Tan, that is a great encouragement for workers far from home. "During the last Tet holiday, the Union visited the rented house and gave my family banh tet. The simple gift and the warm greetings from the brothers and sisters made me feel much warmer. Because of such care and concern, my family has been attached to this boarding house until now" - Mr. Tan said.

Leaving her hometown of Ca Mau to work as a worker in Can Tho, Ms. C could not help but be happy when the Union and the landlord cared for and looked after her. "The Trade Union members often go to the boarding house to propagate and visit workers, especially during holidays and Tet. My mother and I are surrounded by each other far from home, and I also feel comforted by this care. I just hope that the self-management group model will continue to be maintained, the living environment will be good, and I will definitely stay here for a long time, Ms. Nhat confided.

Ms. Luan said that every year, the Trade Union of Can Tho Export Processing Zones and Industrial Parks regularly organizes visits, gives gifts, and supports train and bus tickets for workers during holidays and Tet. Receiving attention and support, workers, especially those far from home, have found themselves not left empty. Many of them even consider boarding houses as their second home and want to stay long-term.

Up to now, Can Tho City's trade unions at all levels have established more than 35 Self-management groups with nearly 2,000 workers. Self-management groups have promoted practical results, contributing to ensuring security and order for boarding houses, helping workers feel secure in living and producing.
