The Chairman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Federation of Labor said that due to the impact of storm No. 3 (from September 6 to 9) in Bac Kan province, Thai Nguyen province had heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms and whirlwinds; heavy rain from the upper reaches of the Cau River in Bac Kan province combined with heavy rain in Thai Nguyen province caused the water level of the Cau River to rise, causing flooding in many areas in the province.
Due to heavy rains and floods, many houses, offices, units and businesses were flooded quickly in riverside and low-lying areas, causing property damage and affecting operations due to lack of electricity. Therefore, cadres, civil servants, public employees, union members and workers in the province were also severely affected by natural disasters.
According to preliminary statistics, as of 11am on September 10, about 3,000 households of officials, civil servants, union members, and workers in the province were flooded due to heavy rains and floods. There were no human casualties, but property damage was very large and specific figures cannot be calculated yet.
Implementing the direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Confederation of Labor has directed, guided, and urged the labor federations of districts, cities, industry unions, and affiliated grassroots unions to promptly and effectively implement the directions of the Central and the province on flood and storm prevention and control; actively and proactively coordinate with experts at the same level, departments, unions, organizations, and individuals to promptly support people, union members, and workers in flood and storm prevention and control, provide necessities, rescue supplies, etc.
The Provincial Federation of Labor also requested that all levels of unions in the province disseminate information to union members and employees working or moving through dangerous areas, areas at risk of deep flooding due to rising water, heavy rains, landslides, and flash flood areas that are not safe; not to let union members and employees stay in dangerous areas directly affected by storms and heavy rains; disseminate information on ensuring the safety of dikes, dams, traffic safety, limiting damage to houses, warehouses, headquarters, public works, industrial parks, factories, and enterprises; protecting agricultural production, preventing flooding in urban areas and industrial parks, etc.
In particular, trade unions at all levels have organized support for people, union members and workers affected by floods.
On September 10, the Thai Nguyen Provincial Federation of Labor established working groups to go to areas heavily affected by storms and floods, providing 600 boxes of instant noodles and 300 life jackets to people, union members, and workers in Dong Hy, Phu Binh, Phu Luong, Dinh Hoa districts and Thai Nguyen city.
Enterprises and grassroots unions are interested in and create conditions for union members and workers affected by storms to enjoy benefits. In particular, Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen Company completely exempts all costs of accommodation, electricity, water, supplies of necessities and pays an allowance of 100,000 VND/person/day for workers with permanent residence in localities affected by floods when registering to stay at the company's dormitory (the implementation period will be until the weather stabilizes).
Other businesses also arrange food and accommodation, ensuring safety for workers to stay and work, not moving to dangerous flood areas.
The union has coordinated and recommended to business leaders to create conditions for workers in deeply flooded and heavily affected areas to take leave (with full salary) to join their families and localities in fighting floods, overcoming consequences, and stabilizing their lives...
