Speaking at the program, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Kieu - Chairwoman of the Grassroots Trade Union of Can Tho City Labor Federation said that the planting of *ban* trees in Thanh An commune (a locality bordering An Giang province), aims to contribute to preventing landslides on canals, while creating a green, clean, beautiful landscape and improving the environment.
According to Ms. Kieu, this is a practical activity in the rural "greening" program implemented by the Trade Union of Can Tho City Labor Federation. Thereby, raising awareness and responsibility of union members and workers in planting, caring for and protecting green trees, contributing to protecting the ecological environment, mitigating natural disasters and adapting to climate change.
Seedlings are socialized from units, philanthropists; union members and workers directly participate in planting trees. After completion, the grassroots trade union will coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh An commune to monitor and evaluate the survival rate of trees to have care plans to ensure the effectiveness of the program.

In the coming time, the Grassroots Trade Union of Can Tho City Labor Federation will continue to research and replicate the model of planting trees to prevent landslides, combined with planting flowers and ornamental plants on rural traffic routes when localities have needs.
Mr. Le Minh Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh An commune said that the locality is supported by the Can Tho City Labor Federation with 1,000 Barringtonia acutangula trees to be planted along the dike line from hamlet B2 to hamlet D2. With this number, the locality will green about 1,000m in the total length of more than 3,500m of the dike line that needs to be protected.

This is a very meaningful activity, contributing to preventing and combating landslides, protecting the environment and responding to climate change. The locality hopes to continue to receive more attention and support for seedlings from the City Labor Federation and units to gradually green the entire route, contributing to protecting people's production land and crops," Mr. Hai shared.
