As a national airline, Vietnam Airlines not only plays the role of an international trade - tourism bridge, but is also gradually realizing its green and sustainable economic development strategy.

Expanding the flight network - connecting globally, promoting sustainable development

In 2025, Vietnam Airlines aims to launch and restore 15 international routes connecting Vietnam with strategic markets such as: Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, UAE...

As of June, the airline has put into operation 5 new routes and restored 4 key international routes. At the same time, the frequency of operations of main routes to China, Korea, Germany, Singapore... is also being increased sharply to welcome a strong recovery of international visitors after the pandemic.

Not only a door to bring international tourists to Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines also plays a soft infrastructure role in connecting investment flows, trade exchanges and promoting the national image. With each route opened, Vietnam Airlines is helping Vietnamese localities reach out to the world, while linking tourism growth with green economic development.

Green transformation, commitment to action for a sustainable future

In the context of the aviation industry facing many environmental pressures, Vietnam Airlines is implementing a green development strategy in a systematic and methodical manner.

The airline currently operates an environmentally friendly fleet of 43 Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 wide-body aircraft, helping to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by an average of 20% compared to older aircraft. In parallel, the airline also applies policies to optimize flight routes and flight speeds, helping to save more than 10,000 tons of fuel per year, equivalent to reducing emissions of more than 30,000 tons of CO2.

Vietnam Airlines is one of the first airlines in Asia to participate in the Net Zero 2050 roadmap as committed by IATA ( International Aviation Transport Association). On May 27, 2024, the airline conducted the first commercial flight using SAF on the route from Singapore to Hanoi. Recently, on June 5, 2025, Vietnam Airlines simultaneously used sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on six domestic flights departing from Da Nang to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam Airlines also actively cooperates in developing SAF supply in Vietnam to reduce operating costs and increase proactiveness. The company has been strengthening cooperation with international partners to build a green supply chain, ensure sustainable fuel supply and promote emission reduction initiatives throughout the value chain.

Digital transformation - increase experience, reduce emissions

With the goal of becoming a 5-star airline, Vietnam Airlines has pioneered the application of modern technology in operations and services. The airline has cooperated with authorities and partners to synchronously deploy solutions such as: Full-process biometric authentication, process automation using RPA, AI and wifi on wide-body aircraft from 2025.

In particular, Vietnam Airlines is the first airline in Vietnam to be recognized by SkaiBlu as an Advanced E-commerce Carrier, with a DAS Level 4 index - on par with major airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways.

These digital solutions not only enhance the passenger experience, but also help reduce printing, resources and operating costs - a pillar in the long-term sustainable development strategy.

Spreading Vietnamese identity, promoting the image of a green and humane country

Vietnam Airlines is not only a transportator, but also a cultural ambassador contributing to spreading the image of a green - beautiful - friendly Vietnam to the world. The airline has accompanied management agencies, localities and travel businesses to participate in many major tourism fairs such as: VITM, ITB Berlin, BIT Milano, WTM London, promoting Vietnamese culture and destinations to millions of international tourists.

Notably, at the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Airlines Corporation, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: Wherever Vietnamese airlines, especially Vietnam Airlines, fly, where they land, is Vietnam's soft border; is a trade connection, cultural connection, people-to-people exchange, tourism development and a symbol of an integrating country. Therefore, Vietnam Airlines must develop more modernly, greenly, with Vietnamese cultural identity - rich in humanity, friendliness and sustainability.

That is also the long-term strategic orientation that Vietnam Airlines is pursuing. Each flight of Vietnam Airlines today not only carries passengers, but also carries the aspiration for green development and deep integration of Vietnam. With a strategy of expanding flight networks, investing in technology, committing to reducing emissions and inspiring from national cultural values, Vietnam Airlines is gradually realizing its role as a "green aircraft" to bring Vietnam to international stature in a sustainable, brave and smart way.

Vietnam Airlines is one of the typical collectives nominated for honor at the Vinh Quang Vietnam 2025 program.
