Anker reclaims more than 1.1 million backup chargers due to fire risk

Quang Minh |

Anker recalls the PowerCore 10.000 backup charger (model code A1263) due to an incident that could cause the device to overheat, causing a risk of fire and explosion.

To date, Anker has recorded 19 cases of fire or explosion, including two cases of minor burns to users and 11 cases of property damage with a total damage of more than 60,700 USD.

This large-scale recall affects 1,158,000 products sold in the US through channels such as Amazon, Newegg and eBay between June 2016 and December 2022. Users can identify the affected device by checking the back of the product - if the words "Anker PowerCore 10,000" are written with the model code "A1263", that is the product subject to recall.

Anker said users can choose to receive a $30 gift card or a 10,000 mAh backup charger instead. Details and instructions are posted on Anker's official product recall page.

Although considered a safe and reliable technology, lithium-ion batteries still have the potential to explode over time due to poor quality. Many transport companies such as FedEx and airlines have applied strict regulations on the transportation of this type of battery.
