Apple's WWDC 2025 is expected to lack AI highlights, as many competitors continue to widen the gap with significant advances in this field.
Some internal sources said that this year's WWDC could be disappointing in terms of AI.
After the launch of Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, Apple's AI technology deployment process was judged to be slow and facing many problems. Meanwhile, the recent Google I/O event announced a series of powerful AI improvements, making WWDC 2025 even more compared at a disadvantage.
Compared to the previous 2 conferences, this year's WWDC is said to be smaller in scale. Despite expectations that Apple will make a breakthrough again at WWDC 2026 after a year of "pause", this slow-paced strategy is considered a big risk, especially in the context of other technology companies continuously introducing new technology to maintain a competitive advantage.
Regarding AI improvements that Apple may announce at WWDC 2025, the current list is considered too small. One of the most notable changes may be Apple's decision to open access to Foundation Models to third-party app developers. If this happens, developers will be able to take advantage of live processing models on the device to integrate Apple Intelligence features such as image creation or text summarization.
However, these device-based models with a capacity of about 3 billion parameters cannot be compared to cloud-based models in terms of efficiency. However, handling queries directly on the device could open up a new direction for applications that require high privacy.
Some other AI features expected at the event include the new smart battery management mode on the iPhone, helping the device use more energy efficiency. The Translate app is also expected to receive a new update, integrating the ability to work with AirPods and Siri to improve the language processing experience.
With such a modest upgrade list, experts are questioning whether Apple can maintain its appeal in the increasingly intense AI race.
