New updated sources say Apple is planning to expand satellite features on the iPhone, far exceeding the current emergency and messaging capabilities.
Previously, Apple introduced a feature that allows sending and receiving messages without mobile waves. In the near future, the company is expected to upgrade the ability to send photos via satellite. In addition, Apple also wants to deploy 5G NTN support (5G NTN - a technology that combines 5G network with ground-based networks such as satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or hot air balloons to expand coverage to areas difficult to access with ground infrastructure), helping broadcasting stations take advantage of satellite signals to expand coverage.
Users in remote areas, without Wi-Fi or mobile networks, will even be able to use Apple Maps via satellite connection to find a way.
Another notable improvement is natural connectivity, helping the iPhone maintain communication with satellites without pointing the device to the sky, even indoors. At the same time, Apple is also developing API for developers, allowing the integration of satellite connections into third-party apps.
There is currently no specific time for launching these features. However, with these features in the future, the iPhone will enter a new phase, where satellite connectivity is not only an emergency service but also a part of the daily experience.
