According to IDC, Huawei will join the top 3 leading Chinese smartphone brands in the third quarter of 2025. The company has exported a large number of equipment in the past three months. However, Huawei's position has declined due to fierce competition.
Statistics show that Huawei sold 10.4 million smartphones from July to September in China, accounting for 15.2% of the market share, ranking 3rd on the chart. Huawei is behind Apple - the company that accounts for 15.8% of the market share with 10.8 million iPhones sold in the third quarter.
The positive sales of the iPhone 17 series in China have helped Apple regain its position in one of its largest markets. However, Huawei seems to be making big plans to capture Apple's market share right at home with its top-notch products.
Huawei has just launched Mate 70 Air, challenging the iPhone Air with a high-end configuration and a huge battery. Surely, the company may have better plans for the Mate 80 series to compete with the entire iPhone 17 series.
Vivo led the Chinese market in the third quarter with 11.8 million smartphones sold and accounted for 17.2% of the market share. Xiaomi ranked fourth and shipped about 10 million devices in the third quarter of this year. In addition, the company accounted for 14.7% of the market share but is witnessing a decrease of 1.7% compared to the same period last year. Oppo and Honor both ranked 5th with 9.9 million smartphones sold.
According to IDC, smartphone sales in China will reach 68.46 million units in the third quarter of 2025. Although down 0.5% year-on-year, it is expected to increase sharply in the fourth quarter of this year after the 11.11 sales event.
Previously, according to analysis by market research company Counterpoint Research, in the third quarter, Huawei did not achieve very impressive sales with the high-end Mate 70 and Pura 80 series. In addition, Huawei is facing challenges as newly launched models run on the HarmonyOS NEXT platform, which still has some limitations in the ecosystem.
For Apple, the slow sales of the older generation of iPhone series have been compensated by the particularly strong performance of the iPhone 17 series, much surpassing the iPhone 16 series in the early stages of launch. The iPhone 17 is basically very popular, with the memory upgraded from 128GB to 256GB while still maintaining the starting price of 5,999 yuan, giving consumers a great deal of incentives.
