Noise levels and hearing health
We have heard a lot about hearing health recently. Apple added many new features to AirPods Pro this fall, but Apple Watch also has many unique hearing health features.
Using integrated microphones to monitor the surrounding environment, Apple Watch will send a warning if the noise level in your environment is too high for a long time.
These warnings can be customized in settings, including adjusting thresholds for warnings to appear. You can also turn them off, as they are enabled by default. In addition, Apple Watch also has a Noise app, which allows you to check your real-time noise level and see if your surroundings are causing concern.
Take a break
Apple Watch can track your breathing without touching your chest directly. It detects micro-movements while you sleep to track each breath. These movements are small, so they can only be read while you are sleeping. All of your breathing data is stored in the Health app and is displayed as a number of breaths per minute.
Cardiovascular health
A little-understood but very useful metric on Apple Watch is cardiovascular health, also known as VO2 Max, which represents the body's ability to use oxygen during high-intensity exercise.
Apple Watch will track your VO2 Max over time as you engage in high-intensity exercise. VO2 Max is calculated based on many factors, including gender, age, and your fitness level.
Through Apple Watch, you will get an overview of your VO2 Max, which reflects your cardiovascular health. If the metric drops to a low level, Apple Watch will issue a warning and suggest improvements.
Any high-intensity exercise, such as cycling, jogging or walking, can help improve this index.
Many other features on Apple Watch
Although many health indicators have been mentioned above, that is not all. Apple Watch offers dozens of other health metrics you can track.
Some other metrics include the water temperature around you, the frequency and duration of hand washing as well as the level of physical effort during the workout.
Some metrics may be more useful than others. But as you become more aware of the data your Apple Watch collects, you can use it more effectively to improve your health.
