According to Xinhua, the Global AI Innovation Index 2026 report was announced at the World AI Conference 2026 and the Global AI Governance Summit in Shanghai.
The report, compiled by the China Institute of Science and Technology Information in collaboration with Peking University, assesses the innovation and development of AI in 46 countries. The results show that global AI is emerging with three major trends.
The first trend is to expand AI infrastructure. The report said that AI infrastructure in the world continues to be heavily invested in. In which, energy supply is seen as a new variable that could significantly affect the pace of AI development in the coming years, as the demand for operating data centers and AI models is increasing.
The second trend is the industrialization of large-scale AI models. According to reports, the development focus is shifting from multi-functional models to specialized models by field. At the same time, AI is also shifting from a focused training phase to optimal reasoning and from deploying individual technologies to comprehensively transforming business processes. This is causing many businesses to increase investment in infrastructure and assets serving AI.
The third trend is to strengthen global AI governance. The report noted that the need to build an AI governance mechanism is increasingly urgent in the context of rapid technological development. According to the report, China is promoting international cooperation and AI governance initiatives in many aspects.
The Global AI Innovation Index 2026 report provides a quantitative assessment of AI innovation and development in 46 countries, thereby reflecting the overall picture as well as the development trends of AI worldwide.
