Check the connection between computer and printer
If using a printer connected by USB cable, check the cable or switch to another USB port.
How to do it: Unplug the USB cable → Plug it back in securely → Try another USB port → Restart the computer and printer.
For a WiFi printer, make sure the computer and printer are connected to the same network.
Check if the printer is turned on
In many cases, the printer has not started or is in sleep mode (Sleep).
How to do it: Turn on the printer → Check the status indicator → If the machine reports an error or paper is stuck, handle it before reconnecting.
Set the printer as default
Windows may be sending a print command to another printer.
How to do it: Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Select printer → Tap Set as default.
Restart Print Spooler service
A hanging Print Spooler service may prevent the computer from receiving the printer.
How to do it: Press Windows + R → Type services. msc → Find Print Spooler → Press Restart.
Update or reinstall printer driver
Driver errors or incompatibility are one of the common causes.
How to do it: Press Windows + X → Select Device Manager → Open Print queues → Right-click on the printer → Select Update driver.
If it still doesn't work, remove the old driver and download the new version from the manufacturer's website.
Remove and re-add the printer
If Windows still does not accept the printer, try reinstalling the device.
How to do it: Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Select printer → Click Remove → Select Add device to reconnect.
Run Windows troubleshooting program
Windows has a tool to automatically check and fix printer errors.
How to do it: Open Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Select Printer → Press Run and follow the instructions.
Check network connection to WiFi printer
If using a wireless printer, unstable network connection can also prevent the computer from detecting the device.
How to do it: Check the computer and printer are connected to the same WiFi network → Restart the router if needed → Try reconnecting the printer.
Update Windows
Some Windows updates may fix the printer compatibility error.
How to do it: Open Settings → Windows Update → Select Check for updates → Install new updates if available.
