AI - global trend and opportunities for Vietnam
Artificial Intelligence is considered the foundational technology of the new era, with a superior development rate compared to many previous technologies.
Sharing about this issue, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Pham Duc Long cited: The Internet took up to 7 years to reach 100 million users, while ChatGPT only took 2 months; the cost of using AI in the past two years decreased by 99%. It is this rapid change that makes AI considered a new infrastructure, determining the competitiveness of countries.

Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung also acknowledged that AI is no longer simply an applied technology, but is becoming a national infrastructure like electricity, telecommunications or the Internet - which played a key role in previous development stages. "When local data is properly exploited, "little giants" can form, creating a big turning point for the country" - the Minister emphasized.
According to the Minister, Vietnam has an important advantage: a population of nearly 100 million people, a young force, technology-loving and creative. This is a foundation for us to not only keep up but also create AI products with our own mark, directly serving the needs of society. Vietnamese people with flexibility and adaptability will be the key to helping AI become a breakthrough driving force.
Development orientation: fast, safe and humane
From a strategic perspective, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: Vietnam must develop AI according to 3 principles: fast, safe and humane. The Minister affirmed that AI must serve humans, helping to solve social problems instead of replacing humans.
This philosophy was summarized by the Minister as "chains and": "Gloobal and local, cooperation and autonomy, big tech and startup, technology and application".

With the same view, Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long identified 4 key pillars for the national AI strategy: " compute infrastructure is muscle, institutions are the rules of the game, data is fuel and human resources are the brain" - this is the foundation for AI to truly become a strategic driving force for sustainable growth.
The goal is that by 2030, Vietnam will be in the group of 3 leading ASEAN countries in AI research and development. Key products identified as priority include: Vietnamese language models, virtual assistants, specialized AI and data analysis AI. The Government also aims to build a high-performance computing infrastructure, develop a centralized data center, popularize AI knowledge to the community and promote research and innovation.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: AI is not only technology, but a national mission. Vietnam has a vision, advantages and now is the time to act to turn AI into a driving force for rapid and sustainable development for the country.
