Ask.com, one of the oldest search and Q&A tools on the Internet, officially ceased operations from May 1, 2026, ending a nearly three-decade journey of existence.
Launched in 1996 under the name Ask Jeeves, this platform once attracted attention when it allowed users to ask questions in natural language, instead of just entering keywords like traditional search engines. This approach is considered the precursor to today's artificial intelligence chatbots.
However, throughout its development, Ask.com gradually lost ground to major competitors, especially Google, as search trends changed rapidly.
In 2005, parent company IAC acquired Ask Jeeves and then removed the name "Jeeves" from the brand. By 2010, the search service was narrowed down, shifting its focus to the Q&A segment.
At that time, IAC President - Mr. Barry Diller, once admitted that this platform could not compete with Google and did not bring corresponding value.
In its latest announcement, IAC said the closure is part of a strategy to focus on core business areas.
After 25 years of answering the world's questions, Ask.com officially closes," the announcement stated.
However, the website still leaves a symbolic message: "Jeeves' spirit is still eternal", as a farewell to an Internet icon that was once very familiar.
