Perplexity's AI- integrated Comet browser is now officially free for all users on Mac and Windows, after a long time limited to Perplexity Max package users.
This is considered an important step for the company to popularise a specialized AI browser, designed to serve work, research and many online tasks.
The biggest difference between Comet and traditional browsers like Chrome or Firefox is how the interface is organized. Instead of using the familiar tab system, Comet brings a smart workspace, allowing users to directly ask questions about the website they are viewing, searching and synthesizing information right at the time of browsing.
Over the past few months, millions of people have signed up for the waiting list to experience this product.
The most outstanding feature of Comet is Comet Assistant, an integrated AI assistant that works similarly to Copilot in Edge.
Users can ask the assistant to summarize the content, navigate the website, suggest related information or recall activities performed in the previous session.
In addition, Comet also has the ability to automatically close down inactive tabs, and each new tab is attached with a separate assistant, helping users to ask multiple questions in parallel.
Not only that, Comet also integrates many other support tools such as Discover (personalized content news and recommendations), online shopping tools, tourism, finance and sports.
These features help users save search time and optimize the web browsing experience according to their needs.
However, some enhanced features are still only for paid users, such as Email Assistant, which helps the compiler answer in personal language, or a virtual assistant, which can handle many automatic tasks even when users are working at another job.
With the orientation of avoiding the cumbersomeness of traditional search engines, Perplexity expects Comet to become the priority choice for groups of Internet users for work and in-depth research.
Although the popular speed may not be as fast as Chrome or Opera, with strong personalization capabilities and comprehensive AI support, Comet is considered a potential competitor in today's competitive browser market.
