Meta is taking another big step forward in its journey to bring users closer to its superverse.
Hyperscape technology is a space scanning system that creates a very realistic digital copy from the Quest 3 and Quest 3S virtual reality glasses, now no longer just a single experience.
Meta said it has deployed an enhanced sharing feature that allows users to invite friends to step into the VR version of the living room, bedroom or any space they have scanning.
Previously, Hyperscape allowed users to explore detailed 3D copies of real-life locations, even Gordon Ramsay's kitchen, but every experience had to be done alone.
This limitation makes Hyperscape, although technologically impressive, lacking interactive elements, what is considered the core of the virtual universe that Meta pursues.
According to Meta's recent blog post, up to 8 people can participate in a world of Hyperscape.
Users can experience VR Quest 3 and Quest 3S glasses or through the Meta Horizon application on mobile devices.
Meta said it is aiming to increase the number of participants in the future, while adding sound and optimizing the display of scanning spaces to bring a more vivid feel.
However, not everyone gets the feature immediately. Meta said the implementation will take place slowly in the next few months, and users need to be patient if they do not see the sharing option.
Meta spokesperson Rachel Holm added that after the feature is enabled, users will have to scan the room again to create a version that allows friends to visit together.
Hyperscape is considered an important piece in Meta's long-term vision of building a superverse that combines VR, AR and highly interactive virtual worlds.
Meta shares that the superverse is not only a place for games or science fiction experiences, but also a space where people can meet, chat and share time together, even if they can't meet in person in real life.
Creating digital copies of real spaces helps users feel closer and more familiar when entering the virtual world.
According to Meta, these experiences can become a bridge between real life and technology, making VR more useful in everyday life, rather than just an entertainment tool.
The first practical experiences show that Hyperscape has achieved impressive levels of detail. Test videos and demos from the beginning of the year show that the scanning rooms have been recreated with colors, lighting and volume almost identical to the original.
This opens up many new applications: from meeting friends, organizing small events to testing interior arrangement.
With the latest update, Hyperscape is gradually becoming a real VR living room, where each user can bring their real world into the virtual space to share with others.
