On January 18, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced that it will organize an auction for the right to use a number of codes and numbers of telecommunications services for information interpretation nationwide, including prefixes 1299, 1500, 1515, 1555 and 1558. This is considered an important step in innovating the method of allocating telecommunications resources according to the market mechanism.
According to information from the Department of Telecommunications (Ministry of Science and Technology), auctioning the right to use telecommunications codes and numbers is one of the major and meaningful policies in state management of telecommunications. This activity aims to ensure the principles of publicity, transparency, improve the efficiency of using digital warehouses and is in line with the orientation of developing a competitive telecommunications market.
Based on the Telecommunications Law and Decree No. 115/2025/ND-CP, the Telecommunications Authority has submitted to the leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology to issue a decision to auction the right to use the above-mentioned information answering service numbers.
The auction is expected to attract the participation of many organizations and businesses with needs and sufficient conditions, thereby contributing to establishing appropriate prices and increasing revenue for the state budget.
According to the Telecommunications Authority, auction activities will be organized online through the online auction information page of Vietnam Joint Venture Auction Company.
The auction method is to bid up, with a starting price of 1 billion VND for each number and price step (the minimum amount to be increased between two consecutive bids in one auction session) is 20 million VND. In addition, participating businesses must deposit 200 million VND in advance for each code and number registered for auction.
The Telecommunications Authority believes that organizing public and transparent auctions will contribute to the effective use of telecommunications resources, while creating a healthy competitive environment for service providers.
According to information posted on the online auction site, the official auction organization time is January 22, 2026, and this activity is only for organizations and businesses that meet the conditions according to regulations.
