Data Backup is always a key factor to help users protect photos, videos, and important documents in case of phone loss or damage.
Although Android has long supported powerful backup mechanisms, there is still an inherent limitation such as many folders, especially the downloads file, which has not been included in the default backup list.
According to Android Authority, Google is testing a new upgrade in version 25.32.31 of Google Play Service. This update adds an automatic backup option to the download category, similar to how Google Photos automatically stores photos and videos.
This means that users will no longer have to manually download this file to Google Drive, but can directly access downloaded files from any device logged in with their Google account.
If widely deployed, this improvement will help Android users manage data more conveniently and comprehensively, especially in the context that the download folders often contain many working documents, PDF files or important installation files.
However, the report also pointed out a notable point such as the appearance of the "Documents" category in the testing system, showing that Google may apply limitations, only allowing Backup of certain types of files instead of all data in the directory. If so, the level of convenience of this feature may be reduced compared to expectations.
Despite concerns, Google's addition of Backup capabilities to the download category is considered a necessary step forward, narrowing the gap between Android and platforms that already provide more comprehensive Backup capabilities.
Users are still waiting for the official announcement from Google to know when this feature will be widely released.
With this improvement, Android promises to bring a safer and more convenient experience, helping users' personal data to always be fully protected on a cloud platform.
