Google to invest $1 billion in Thailand

According to the latest information, Google is planning to spend $1 billion on data center and cloud infrastructure in Thailand.

It is known that the world's leading multinational technology company - Google has not yet disclosed detailed information about data centers, but according to the plan to spend 1 billion USD on data center and cloud infrastructure in Thailand from 2025 to 2029, and build factories in Bangkok and Chonburi. This will help create 14,000 jobs and $4 billion in Thailand's GDP.

The "big guy" of the Internet search platform said that this new project helps meet the growing demand for Google Cloud. At the same time, AI innovation, as well as the company's digital services such as search, maps, workspace, etc.

Accordingly, Google's data center will be located in an industrial park in Chonburi, while Google Cloud Region - which includes specialized hardware and software to provide services to the public and private sectors - is located in the capital Bangkok.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said that Thailand is quickly becoming the digital hub of Southeast Asia thanks to its skilled workforce and investment in technology infrastructure from companies like Google.

In addition, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra also assessed that Google's investment in data centers and clouds in Chonburi and Bangkok is very much in line with Thailand's Cloud First policy.

First of all, Google will partner with Gulf Edge to provide sovereign cloud here.

In Asia, Google has Google Cloud regions in Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), South Korea, and Japan.

Amazon Web Services a strong competitor in this market of Googole, is also planning to open a cloud area in Thailand in early 2025 and invest 5 billion USD by 2037.

Previously, in May 2024, "tech giant" Microsoft also announced that it would build AI and cloud infrastructure in this Southeast Asian country to promote cloud services.
