Google Drive upgrades document scanning feature

Google Drive, the popular cloud storage app, is gearing up to roll out a major upgrade to its built-in document scanning feature.

Starting early next year (2025), Android and iOS users will experience major improvements to improve scan quality, including automatic white balance, ghosting removal, and contrast enhancement, among other editing tools.

With these new features, Google Drive becomes more than just a storage space, it becomes a more powerful document scanning tool. These automated improvements help convert paper documents into high-quality digital images without the need for time-consuming manual editing.

Drive's scanner automatically performs steps like correct white balance, ghosting removal, auto-sharpening, lighting enhancement, and many other adjustments depending on the type of document being scanned.

This is especially useful in difficult lighting conditions, allowing users to easily create clear scans with just a few simple steps.

These new features will roll out gradually to all users, regardless of whether they use a personal account or an account that's part of a Google Workspace plan.

Google has been steadily improving its document scanning feature recently. The app has added the ability to save scanned documents as JPEGs, instead of just PDFs as before.

Previously, Google also introduced an automatic capture feature to save time when scanning documents.

The upcoming upgrade promises to improve the user experience, making document scanning easier. Automatic improvements like ghost removal and color correction will solve many users' frustrations, saving them time and effort in manual editing.

With these changes, Google Drive is not only a storage place, but also becomes a powerful support tool in daily life and work.
