Google faces a big challenge as ChatGPT and Gemini dominate information lookup

The new survey shows that more than half of users are choosing AI instead of Google in many tasks, from travel, practice to email writing.

According to a report from Future AI Sentiment Wave 3, up to 55% of survey participants in the US said they have used AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Gemini instead of search engines in many daily tasks. In the UK, the rate is higher, reaching 62%.

Google is still the main channel for verifying information, but online search habits are changing significantly.

The main reason lies in personalized experience. Instead of displaying a series of leads, AI responds directly, step by step, clearly and saves time.

Users describe chatting with chatbots as more like working with a dedicated assistant than just a regular search engine.

The survey shows that AI is replacing Google in 6 main areas, including: holiday planning, building personal exercise, gift suggestions, handling technical problems, product comparison and drafting emails/ messages.

From designing detailed travel schedules to writing job letter covers, AI shows superior convenience and adaptability.

However, experts note that traditional search engines still play an important role in verifying and comparing information. The use of AI can save effort, but the risk of deviation or inaccuracy still exists if there is no cross-checking step.

With ChatGPT processing billions of requests every day and AI increasingly integrated into phones and applications, the challenge for Google is to develop quickly.

Otherwise, the technology giant risks losing the online gateway position to the hands of new-generation AI tools.
