Google announced in a blog post that the Maps app has a new update, aimed at simplifying user journeys.
Notably, Maps adds an "Add stops" button right next to the "Start" button at the bottom of the screen. When tapped, users can easily open the "Add stops to your route" panel, so they can plan their stops more quickly.
Another upgrade that will effectively support users when moving through complex areas with many lanes, signs and exits is the new navigation feature, which will clearly mark lanes, crosswalks and signs on the map, helping drivers accurately track the lane to go, minimizing sudden lane merging situations.
Google Maps also integrates weather alerts to make winter driving safer. Users can see and report weather disruptions on their route, such as flooded areas, unpaved roads, or low visibility. This not only helps individual users prepare, but also shares important information with the driver community.
Upon reaching the final destination, the "arrival guidance" feature will provide information about building entrances and nearby parking lots, and allow users to "Save parking". Additionally, users can use "AR Live View" to get walking directions from the parking lot to the main entrance of the building.
The new features will begin rolling out to both Android and iOS this week. The enhanced navigation is expected to be available next month in more than 30 major metropolitan areas, with further expansion in the coming months.
