Trusted data infrastructure: 2 trillion USD digital economy key

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

Building a reliable data infrastructure and interoperability will open up prospects for promoting a digital economy of over 2,000 billion USD in Southeast Asia.

Continuing the success of the first season, Ho Chi Minh City Technology Festival - Conviction 2026 returns with the theme "Real World, Real Movement", focusing on creating a space for real dialogue and cooperation around the pillars of Blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital assets.

Contributing opinions at the event taking place on August 14 and 15 this year, Mr. Nguyen Phu Dung, General Director of PILA Group JSC emphasized that the core factor of the future digital economy lies in the reliable data infrastructure.

According to Mr. Dung, digital assets or encrypted assets essentially operate in cyberspace. No matter how complete the legal framework is, it needs a strong enough authentication infrastructure to be a fulcrum for transactions.

From here, the General Director of PILA made three recommendations to create market confidence. The first recommendation is to form an alliance between the State, institutes, schools and businesses to standardize the data management and identification framework. The second recommendation is to turn national reliable infrastructure into a common infrastructure for fields such as: finance, logistics, healthcare, avoiding each unit building it themselves causing waste.

The third is to prepare for cross-border authentication when the ASEAN electronic identification framework is implemented. According to Mr. Dung, this is not just Vietnam's problem. The draft ASEAN Digital Economy Agreement, expected to be signed in November this year, is opening up prospects for promoting a digital economy with a scale of more than 2,000 billion USD in Southeast Asia.

This requires countries to have reliable infrastructure and interoperability between countries. Then, digital identity can be verified across borders, digital evidence can be verified across borders, and data can become the foundation for forming types of digital assets.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Dung affirmed: "Digital assets are only truly valuable when operated on a reliable infrastructure". The expert believes that clearly defining the data infrastructure layer and the digital finance layer will help businesses feel secure in bringing digital assets and business models to Vietnam, creating value for the economy.

In addition to reliable data infrastructure, according to Mr. Nguyen The Vinh, co-founder and CEO of Ninety Eight and Fanos, a transparent legal corridor is considered a prerequisite for the business community to bring digital assets and core technologies into practical application in Vietnam.

Representatives of Ninety Eight said that the initial concerns of the market have gradually been resolved through constructive dialogue with management agencies in Vietnam. However, the biggest desire of domestic technology businesses today is still the companionship and speed of institutional improvement.

Mr. Nguyen The Vinh expressed: "Our wish is that the legal framework will be completed soon, to create a solid premise for business development.

CEO Ninety Eight emphasized that legal completion and compliance activities will also help international partners confidently cooperate, bringing Vietnamese digital technology solutions to the global market.
