In a statement to IGN (Imagine Games Network - website for games and entertainment), the company said: "We are forced to notify the team about internal changes. Although efforts are being made to rearrange work for many people, some will have to leave after the official consultation process. We are committed to transparency, fairness and respect throughout this process".
Expected to be a blockbuster opening a new gaming universe, MindsEye is the debut product of the studio founded by Leslie Benzies - former producer of the famous GTA game series at Rockstar Games. However, right after its launch in early June, the game received many poor reviews and was criticized for serious technical errors. Some sponsored livestreams were also canceled close to the broadcast time.
However, Build a Rocket Boy still announces a long-term development roadmap for MindsEye, including content updates that last until the end of the year, adding multiplayer and open world mode. The company expects players to participate in creating content to maintain the game. "Hopefully the community will create attractive content for us to spread to other players," Benzies shared.
The number of affected personnel has not been officially announced, but IGN said that about 100 people will be fired, accounting for 1/5 of the company's total number of employees.
In the context of a fiercely competitive gaming market, especially with the dominance of platforms such as Fortnite or Roblox, MindsEye's journey to retain players will be even more difficult.
