Instagram is rolling out a new update that may upset many people, especially those who have meticulously arranged the photo grid interface on their personal profile.
Accordingly, the photo grid interface will change from the familiar square to a rectangular grid. Instagram tested this change last August and now CEO Adam Mosseri has confirmed that it will be applied to all users.
“I know a lot of people love the squares that are the hallmark of Instagram,” Mosseri said in a recent interview. “But now, most of the photos and videos that are uploaded are vertical. The need to crop too much is something that no one wants.”
Mosseri also admitted that the change might be “annoying at first,” but he believes that “in the long run, people will appreciate having their photos and videos displayed more fully, without being cropped too much.”
In addition to changing the profile grid interface, Instagram also added a new feature in the Reels section, allowing users to see videos that their friends have liked.
