On the afternoon of December 14, director Shin Dongle - who directed the production of NewJeans' MVs such as "Supernatural", "Cookie", "Hype Boy" - suddenly shared a new Instagram account named jeanzforfree.
This account is identified as the new Instagram account of 5 members of the group NewJeans including Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein, after the 5 female idols simultaneously announced the termination of their contracts with ADOR Company.
The account recorded 370 thousand followers after about 3 hours. NewJeans members also confirmed through a series of short videos, they said “It’s really us”, “We will be active here”, and promised to communicate with fans through this account.
NewJeans then made its first post on the new account, announcing that they were giving away free food and drinks at four locations to protesters calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok Yeol.
Regardless of which Kpop artist you are a fan of, as long as you have a lightstick, you can receive gifts under the name “Bunnies” (NewJeans fandom).
Former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin also liked this post.
NewJeans is not the only artist who has taken action to support the protesters in Korea, previously some artists such as IU, Yuri (SNSD) also took similar actions. However, this is the first activity of NewJeans after creating a new social media account, so it immediately attracted attention.
NewJeans held a press conference and announced the termination of the contract with ADOR (under HYBE Group) from November 29, with the reason that the company violated the terms of the contract and did not correct it in time, leading to a complete breakdown of trust between the artist and the company.
The 5 female idols said they are committed to fully fulfilling their obligations in the contracts that ADOR signed with partners before the time they announced the termination of the contract.
But recently, the members have refrained from using the group name when appearing as guests at Yoasobi's concert in Korea.
This, along with the move to create their own Instagram account, shows that the group is taking steps to follow the statement: "Operate independently, no longer related to HYBE and ADOR".
In the new video, Minji said, “A lot of people support and worry about us, but we are strong. We will be back soon, so please wait for us.”
