Apple is preparing to launch iOS 26 next month, bringing a series of new interface improvements and features, notably Spatial Scene, a 3D lock screen display mode that first appeared on the iPhone.
This feature allows users to turn static images into deep space effects, creating a 3D movement feeling every time users lean or move the device.
The power behind this effect comes from the combination of AI and the integrated motion sensor on the iPhone.
Apple hopes to enhance the personalized lock screen experience, while bringing a more vivid and intuitive interface thanks to a new design called Liquid Glass UI.
Currently, the "Space Scene" feature is available in the public beta of iOS 26, and is expected to officially launch with the iPhone 17 series in September.
Here's a guide on how to activate and customize the 3D lock screen on iPhone:
Step 1: Press and hold on the lock screen to open the interface edit process. Select the "+" icon to add a new lock screen.
Step 2: Select a wallpaper from your personal library or use the available "Space Scene" suggestions recommended by iOS.
Step 3: Adjust the background by conveying to enlarge or cut the frame as desired. Make sure the hexagonal icon (representing spatial mode) is turned on to activate the 3D effect.
Step 4: customize other factors on the lock screen such as letter size, letter chu, watch color and add appropriate utility widgets.
When completed, users will have a vivid lock screen, with a flexible 3D effect with each movement of the device, something that was previously only seen in enhanced reality simulation technologies.
Note
iOS 26 is still in the public beta testing phase and some features may be adjusted or changed when the official update is released.
However, with what was announced at WWDC 2025, "Space Scene" promises to be the most notable highlight on the iPhone this year.
