In July 2025, the number of downloads of X on Google Play globally decreased by 44% compared to the same period last year, in contrast to the 15% increase on iOS.
This sharp decline caused an overall average decline, causing the X's mobile load to decrease by 26% compared to the same period. This figure is still easy to breathe compared to last month, when the decrease was up to 35% due to the Android downloads plummeting by nearly half (49%).
Appfigures did not give a specific reason, but said that the X application on Android was already complacent by users for many errors and frequent hanging up their devices.
To overcome this, new product director Nikita Bier has announced a plan to build a Android Dream Team to recreate the X app on Android. Bier also shared that iOS of X has just had a record week of setbacks, as if to soothe attention before the longlide of Android.
Meanwhile, rival Bluesky grew slowly, reaching only 119,000 downloads on Google Play in July, too small compared to millions of X downloads per month. However, Meta's Threads has a daily number of mobile users approaching X, which could attract some Android users to leave the platform.
Another reason is that X is losing customers to pay to Grok. This AI application now has an independent app, attracting users who have registered for X mainly to experience artificial intelligence features.
