According to Techcrunch, the launch of the global Meta account will take place gradually and be available quickly in all regions.
Previously, to log into the company's virtual reality (VR) system, users would have to have personal social media accounts - Facebook and Instagram. privacy is always a difficult problem to solve for this technology giant, so Meta has high hopes for this new step forward.
Not only new users, but also long-time users of Meta's VR devices, will be required to register for a Meta account to log in and access Metaverse.
The company is trying to gradually limit the old login method after many complaints with content concerned about privacy when using personal social media accounts.
Although it is encouraging users to connect through Meta accounts, the company still allows users to use Facebook and Instagram accounts to log in and create new Meta accounts.
If users choose to create a Meta account through a social media account, they will be connected to the platform's Account Center. Those who use Oculus login information will be maintained until January 1, 2023.
In addition, Facebook's parent company also affirmed that it will bring better experiences in Metaverse such as live sharing, texting and finding followers faster when updating accounts.
To start creating a Meta account, users need to have the latest software update on the Oculus app and VR headphones.
In addition to Meta account, Meta Horizon Profile will replace the used Oculus account. The profile will be a place to store all the information, and people can completely consider it a social media platform for Metaverse.
The term Friends was also used in Metaverse but now it will become Followers, giving the Horizon World platform a very Instagram feel.
Meta will provide three options to users - Open to Everyone, Friends and Family, and solo (private mode). If users choose to ignore the privacy setting, they will be set as Friends and Family by default. In particular, minors aged 13 to 17 will be set up for private accounts by default.
Currently, accounts are only linked to VR-related login information, but Meta is also aiming to develop it higher and further.
