Microsoft will stop supporting Copilot on WhatsApp from January 15, 2026 after the messaging platform changed its policy. Microsoft said that users will not be able to continue chatting with Copilot on Google Play and will need to switch to a mobile application or a web version if they want to use the AI assistant.
The suspension comes from Google's new policy, according to which API WhatsApp Business will no longer support multi-functional AI chatbots. This means WhatsApp is no longer a distribution channel for AI assistants to companies like Microsoft or OpenAI.
OpenAI also announced that it will end ChatGPT integration with WhatsApp in January 2026. Meta's move has forced many AI platforms out of the WhatsApp ecosystem.
Microsoft noted that users' chat history with Copilot on WhatsApp cannot be synchronized to another platform because the chatbot operates without account authentication. Users can self-express their chat history using the WhatsApp tool before January 15, 2026 if they want to save it.
