Dak Lak - Amid the imminent danger, two men risked their lives by rowing a boat to save hundreds of people, becoming a life-and-death support for the whole village in the fierce flood.

These days, people in Son Hoa commune (Dak Lak) are urgently cleaning their houses after the historic flood that just swept through, trying to rebuild their lives from the ruins.

Amidst the sound of the brooms sweeping the mud, the people of Ngan Dien village still reminded each other of two brave men who used a small boat to rush into the flood to save hundreds of lives. They are Mr. Ho Chi Lien and Mr. Do Ngoc Tang.

Mr. Dinh Xuan Son said that on the evening of November 19, water from upstream flooded, submerging the entire road to the village.

"At around 6pm, Mr. Lien rowed a small boat into each house to carry people to higher ground. As for my house, he took nearly 20 people to the 2nd floor to temporarily stay. The whole village escaped thanks to Mr. Lien, said Mr. Son.

Ms. Thai Thi Tu - one of the rescued people was still shocked: "The water rose nearly 2 meters, I thought I would not survive. When I heard the screams about to leave, I took him to a higher place, and I realized that it was Mr. Lien".

Talking about that night, Mr. Lien shared: Seeing the water moving everything, I knew the roof would be submerged. Some families were sitting on the roof, cold and purple. I don't remember how many people I have carried, I only know how to work from 9pm to 3am before daring to go home. What I fear most is that if it comes late, they will have no way to live.

At the same time, Mr. Do Ngoc Tang and his wife also participated in the flood. Hearing the news that the water had flooded into the village next door, the couple immediately got into a boat to rescue people.

Mr. Tang said: "The water rose close to the roof, the flow was strong, and garbage blocked the road. Rescue forces were present but could not approach. I was forced to row a boat to get each person out of the danger zone. When the section was not flooded, my wife waited to continue transporting by motorbike. The couple worked from 6pm to 9pm, no break".

The next morning, although exhausted, Mr. Tang returned to Ngan Dien village with a small boat. "Hearing the cry for help, I just saved, I couldn't think of anything else," he said.

Mr. Ly Van Dan - a witness said: "On November 20, the whole village was completely isolated. Mr. Tang has taken many people to safety, each trip with 3-4 people".

Mr. Nguyen Duy Tinh, Vice Chairman of Son Hoa Commune People's Committee, said that the locality is focusing on overcoming the consequences of the flood.

The commune will compile statistics and propose rewards for organizations and individuals who have helped people in natural disasters, especially the brave spirit of Mr. Ho Chi Lien, Mr. Do Ngoc Tang and many people who forgot to save people in the recent flood.
