Anthropic female chair denies the risk of AI taking jobs widely

Daniela Amodei believes that the impact of AI on employment is very small, emphasizing the role of soft skills amidst the wave of concern about the "SaaS disaster".

In the context of the global technology market fluctuating due to the wave of concern about the "SaaS disaster", Daniela Amodei, co-founder and Chairman of Anthropic (the company behind chatbot Claude) has spoken out to lower the level of threat of artificial intelligence (AI) to human jobs.

Her statements were made just days after Anthropic's new workplace automation toolkit raised concerns that AI could replace a series of jobs previously performed by humans or service software platforms (SaaS).

As a result, shares of many large information technology corporations in India, such as Infosys, TCS and HCLTech, fell sharply as investors worried about the long-term prospects of the industry.

Investment bank Jefferies called this phenomenon the "SaaS disaster", implying the risk of traditional software companies being overshadowed by AI.

However, Daniela Amodei believes that concerns about AI "stealing" jobs are being exaggerated.

She emphasized that the number of tasks that AI can perform completely independently is "extremely small". According to her, AI can partially replace tasks such as customer support, but in most cases, this technology only plays a supporting role, helping people work more efficiently.

Even with tasks that require high cognitive capacity, the combination of humans and AI is still more effective than letting AI do it alone," Ms. Amodei said and said that the collaboration between humans and machines can create more meaningful, challenging, interesting and productive jobs.

Notably, Daniela Amodei emphasized the increasing importance of soft skills in the AI era. When current models are already very strong in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), competencies such as critical thinking, communication, emotional intelligence, compassion and cooperative ability will become key competitive advantages.

She said Anthropic currently prioritizes recruiting candidates with good communication skills, eagerness to learn and desire to create positive impacts for society.

Daniela Amodei's point of view is somewhat contrary to the previous warning from her brother, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic.

In a long essay titled "The Age of Technology", Mr. Dario Amodei warned that AI could disrupt the labor market, far exceeding previous technological revolutions.

Besides the issue of jobs, Ms. Daniela Amodei also mentioned Anthropic's product and ethics strategy. She affirmed that Claude will not insert advertisements into conversations, as users may share personal or sensitive information with chatbots.

According to her, exploiting user data for advertising purposes in this context is disrespectful of privacy.

Faced with concerns about the negative impact of AI chatbots, especially on adolescents, Anthropic currently does not allow users under 18 years old to register to use Claude.

We still do not fully understand the impact of AI on children, so we need to be cautious," Ms. Daniela Amodei emphasized, while encouraging parents to actively talk to their children about AI as part of the digital future.
