According to Tech Crunch, OpenAI is assessing the interest of developers who may want to integrate the service into their applications.
ChatGPT is quickly becoming one of the world's largest consumer applications, currently with about 600 million monthly active users. To take advantage of this popularity, OpenAI seems eager to test and expand to other consumer sectors, such as online shopping, social media and personal devices.
A potential feature like "Login with ChatGPT" could help OpenAI compete with other large consumer technology companies - such as Apple, Google and Microsoft - by providing users with a quick way to log in to online services and third-party apps.
Earlier this month, OpenAI released a preview of the ChatGPT Log-in experience for developers in Codex CLI, the companys open-source AI encryption tool for terminals. This feature allows developers to connect their ChatGPT Free, Plus, or Pro accounts to their API accounts.
OpenAI appears to be interested in integrating login services with multiple companies. The developer's concern model requires companies to assign their application user base, from small companies with less than 1,000 weekly users to large applications with more than 100 million weekly users. This model also requires developers to pay for current AI features and whether they are OpenAI API customers.
In 2023, CEO Sam altman noted that the company may consider the " OpenAI Login" feature in 2024. However, it now seems that OpenAI is taking the opportunity to build the capability more seriously by 2025. It is unclear when the login feature will work for ChatGPT users or how many companies have registered to participate.
