At the Snapdragon 2024 Summit held in Hawaii, Qualcomm officially introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor (official name of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4). As expected, this is an impressive platform with great strides in mobile performance, gaming, photography and artificial intelligence, etc.
Many mobile device manufacturers have said they will use this chip for their new flagships. Samsung has also been confirmed as one of the companies that will launch devices equipped with Snapdragon 8 Elite in the coming months.
Accordingly, Qualcomm's new chip is designed to bring computing power to smartphones, helping devices take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
Snapdragon 8 Elite is the latest version in the Snapdragon line - a chip line using an internal Oryon design and providing 45% faster speed as well as saving more energy than the previous generation. The chip Snapdragon 8 Elite is manufactured on a 3nm process, including two 4.32GHz pulse poles and 6 3.53GHz pulse poles, Adreno 830 GPUs.
Currently, Qualcomm is the dominant name in the chip market for Android devices. That means any update from the company will help smartphone manufacturers compete better with Apple.
According to Qualcomm, the ability to run AI software right on the device has taken a leap forward with the new Snapdragon chip. Instead of accessing the service on the remote server, the response will be much faster.
In addition to Samsung's Galaxy S25, which will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, other smartphone product lines such as OnePlus 13, Xiaomi 15, Honor Magic 7 Pro and Realme GT 7 Pro will also be equipped with this chip.
