Launching the Vietnam Semiconductor Industrial Resources Development Alliance

HCMC - On August 2, at Quang Trung Software Park, the Vietnam Semiconductor Industrial Resources Development Alliance was launched.

The semiconductor industry is becoming a strategic pillar in the digital transformation process and the development of the high-tech industry in Vietnam. However, the problem of shortage of high-quality human resources - both in quantity and in professional capacity - is a major barrier to sustainable development and investment attraction.

The Vietnam Semiconductor Industrial Resources Development Alliance (SEVINA) was established to gather social resources, connect training organizations and businesses to proactively solve human resources problems in a practical and synchronous manner.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Truong Gia Bao - Chairman of the Vietnam Semiconductor Industrial Resources Development Alliance emphasized: The alliance was born in the context of the semiconductor industry being the strategic focus of many countries. Vietnam needs to have a proactive and methodical approach to not miss this opportunity. The shortage of human resources is not only a problem for businesses alone, but a common story of the entire ecosystem - where schools, the state and businesses need to sit down and act together.

The chip market has maintained a compound annual growth rate of 14% over the past 20 years, and has the potential to become a trillion-dollar industry by 2030.

Vietnam's semiconductor industry has the potential to grow rapidly with the participation of leading corporations in the world and the participation of many large domestic enterprises. The world's leading chip corporations are entering the Vietnamese market in the context of the global semiconductor race heating up.

Vietnam has great potential to develop the semiconductor industry. There are currently about 40 large-scale microchip design companies in the Vietnamese market, including 6 Vietnamese companies.

Vietnam has great opportunities but also some challenges in training and providing human resources for the semiconductor industry. The project "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050" chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (now the Ministry of Finance) has forecasted the need for about 50,000 semiconductor industry engineers. Vietnam has the conditions and capacity to train about 50,000 semiconductor industry engineers by 2030, however, in terms of quality, there is still a gap between supply and demand.

Dr. Nguyen Quan - Former member of the Party Central Committee - Former Minister of Science and Technology - Chairman of the Vietnam Automation Association spoke at the launching ceremony of the Vietnam Semiconductor Industrial Resources Development Alliance and affirmed: The SEVINA Alliance brings a new model where all parties have a voice, shape the capacity framework and output standards. This is a way to ensure that trained learners are not "lazy to be teachers", but are truly ready to join the semiconductor industry's workforce. This brings clear benefits to businesses, students, society, investors, ... and the whole state".

SEVINA aims to become a bridge between schools - businesses - policies, to develop the semiconductor human resource ecosystem in Vietnam. The alliance aims to build a platform for strategic and sustainable cooperation, to train, foster and develop a force of engineers and technicians ready to participate in the global semiconductor industry supply chain.
