Previously, many sources predicted that the iPhone 17 would have a 24MP sensor, but in the end, Apple only stopped at 18MP, which was a significant upgrade.
If the leak is accurate, the 24MP upgrade will help Apple's iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air 2, and the first foldable iPhone model bring sharper selfies, higher details, and more accurate portrait taking capabilities.
Apple calls the Selfie camera on iPhone 17 Center Stage, which is also the first time a square sensor has been used for the iPhones front camera. This sensor design allows for increased viewing, allowing users to take portrait or landscape photos with just one hand while holding a phone vertically.
New information also reveals that the foldable iPhone model will be the first in the industry to be equipped with a 24MP camera hidden under the internal screen.
Starting from 2026, Apple is expected to change the iPhone launch schedule: a group of high-end products including iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone will launch in the second half of 2026; while standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models will launch in the spring of 2027.
