This year, Samsung and Apple are competing fiercely with new ultra-thin smartphones, but both have failed. The Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air are both selling so sluggishly that other manufacturers are currently considering, or have even suspended similar projects.
Immediately after the Galaxy S25 Edge was launched, Chinese manufacturers began to sell phones similar to their brand. For example, the Tecno Slim has become the thinnest phone in the world with a curved screen.
But according to Phone Arena, at least one Chinese smartphone maker has quickly stopped producing its thin smartphones, after seeing poor sales for the iPhone Air.
While some Chinese thin phones promise much better battery life due to the use of silicon batteries, the possibility of these models continuing to be produced still needs to be considered carefully if the situation does not improve for the iPhone Air. Previously, according to Phone Arena, Apple had cut iPhone Air production by 1 million units, while other models increased.
There have been many conflicting reports on the issue, but most industry insiders believe the Galaxy S26 Edge project is unlikely to be implemented in the future.
If Samsung does not continue to produce the Galaxy S26 Edge models, many other phone manufacturers will follow. In particular, if Apple also temporarily stops producing the iPhone Air, the future of ultra-thin smartphones will be questioned.
According to experts, Apple kept the iPhone mini and iPhone Plus for many years before deciding that they did not really bring much competitive value. Even if it does not soon overcome the barrier of silicon batteries, it will still be around for at least a few more generations.
Just like the Apple Vision Pro virtual reality glasses, the future of the world's smartphone manufacturing industry depends on many Apple to calculate the next steps. Therefore, before making a final decision on the iPhone Air, in general, some ultra-thin smartphone manufacturers will still carefully consider their plans.
