Spotify announced cooperation agreements with Sony, Universal, Warner and Merlin to develop AI music products that "prioritize artists". Accordingly, these tools will respect copyright, ensure fair remuneration and allow artists to decide whether to use AI in their works.
New features include AI DJ and personalized playlisting as requested by users. Spotify said the upcoming system will help artists determine when their music is used in AI-generated music, and collect fees when there are rights to use.
Spotify has previously been criticized for allowing AI-generated music to become popular on the platform, raising concerns about the pushback of human art. The company has updated its AI policy, limited the relocation of large amounts of AI content, and applied the DDEX label to mark products using AI.
Spotify also builds a bio-AI lab and a new product development team, emphasizing that artists will have the right to choose to participate in the AI music ecosystem. According to the company, many new tools will be launched soon in the near future.
