The social media app says that in the coming weeks, users will be able to send voice, image and video messages via direct messages or group chats.
According to TikTok, the length of voice messages will be limited to one minute. For photos and videos, users can send up to ten files from the library or camera application on the phone. However, the platform has set some safety regulations, such as users cannot send photos or videos from the first message to another person.
Compared to Messenger or Snapchat, which has long allowed voice messages and multimedia sharing, TikTok is gradually catching up with the game. Previously, the platform launched a maximum chat group of 32 people and added the footnotes feature in April, inspired by X and Meta's Community Notes.
With consecutive upgrades, TikTok shows its ambition to expand the experience from video social networking to a more comprehensive messaging and communication platform.
