Low pressure after storm No. 6 continues thunderstorms, warnings of tornadoes and flash floods during the September 2 holiday

After Typhoon No. 6 Nongfa has just dissipated, a new low pressure is forming, combined with the Southwest monsoon, bringing widespread thunderstorms right on the occasion of September 2.

According to the latest storm/low pressure information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PASAGA), at 3:00 a.m. this morning (September 1), the low pressure area was determined to be about 570 km east-northeast of Catanduanes Island (Philippines), 695 km from Camarines Norte province. The center of the low pressure is located at 14.6 degrees North latitude, 129.4 degrees East longitude.

PAGASA forecasts that the possibility of the low pressure strengthening into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours is low. However, this system causes thunderstorms to thrive, intensifying the southwest monsoon, affecting the western areas of Southern Luzon and Visayas as well as Northern Mindanao.

PAGASA recommends that local disaster response residents and officials should be vigilant against the possibility of flooding, flash floods and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas.

At sea, the strong southwest monsoon causes the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau, the Gulf of Thailand, the Truong Sa and the South East Sea to have thunderstorms with tornadoes, gusts of wind of level 6-7, waves 1.5-2.5 m high. The meteorological agency recommends that small boats and fishing vessels far from shore should not go to sea at this time.
