“Image Playground” is one of the new Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.2. This app allows users to create fun and creative images right on their devices without a cloud connection.
Apple says users can create images in seconds by choosing styles like Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. The app is built into apps like Messages, Keynote, Pages, and Freeform, making it easy for users to create rich content.
Users can start with a photo in their Photos library, add text descriptions, or customize with pre-existing themes, locations, and accessories. Apple also provides an API for third-party developers to integrate “Image Playground” into their apps.
While the resulting images aren't as photo-realistic as a photo, the wealth of customization ensures endless creativity. Apple's editor-curated suggestions also make it easy for users to explore new ideas.
Apple Intelligence features, including “Image Playground,” will only be available on newer iPhones like the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Older devices can still update to iOS 18.2, but they won’t support these special features.
