After previous speculation, YouTube TV has officially confirmed that it will give away a credit of 20 USD to subscribers affected by the disruption of Disney's channels. This information was first posted by Variety and then confirmed by a YouTube spokesperson to TechCrunch.
According to YouTube, a compensation program is being implemented and customers will receive a detailed email instructions on how to apply this credit to upcoming invoices. The amount will be deducted directly into the next payment bill.
The incident began on October 31, when all of Disney's channels, including ESPN, ABC and many others, were removed from the YouTube TV platform. The service said that if the two sides reach an agreement, the channels will be restored within a few hours.
Like many other content distribution disputes, the main reason is believed to be price disagreements. YouTube said Disney has increased copyright fees, while Disney accused YouTube of rejecting to pay reasonable prices for our channels.
Previously, in 2022, YouTube TV also had a similar dispute with Disney. At that time, users will receive a credit of 15 USD after a day of losing the channel's broadcast.
