Eat white rice just enough to not affect the liver

The relationship between liver and white rice is still something many people want to know.

White rice is a familiar food in Vietnamese meals, providing an important source of energy for the body thanks to its abundant carbohydrate content.

However, many people wonder whether eating a lot of white rice will affect liver health or not. In fact, white rice does not directly harm the liver if consumed in reasonable quantities.

Conversely, eating too much white rice for a long time can increase the risk of fatty liver disease and some related metabolic disorders.

White rice is processed from rice that has removed most of the bran and germs, causing the amount of fiber, vitamins and minerals to decrease significantly. When eating a lot of white rice, the body will absorb carbohydrates faster, causing blood sugar to rise after meals.

To handle excess sugar, the body secretes more insulin. If this condition persists, the amount of sugar not fully used can be converted into fat and accumulated in the liver, increasing the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver.

A diet that is too high in refined carbohydrates like white rice often comes with a lack of green vegetables, fruits and quality protein sources. This causes the body to lose nutritional balance, affecting the liver's metabolism.

Many studies show that people who regularly consume large amounts of refined carbohydrates are at higher risk of obesity, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, which are all factors closely related to fatty liver disease.

However, that does not mean that healthy people must completely eliminate white rice from their diet. The liver still needs energy to perform metabolic functions, and starch is one of the important sources of energy.

The problem lies in the amount of consumption and how to combine food in meals. Nutrition experts often recommend eating rice with a moderate portion, while increasing green vegetables, beans, fish, lean meat and fiber-rich foods to slow down sugar absorption.

For people with fatty liver, diabetes or overweight, reducing white rice intake and partially replacing it with brown rice, whole grains or beans can bring better health benefits. These foods are high in fiber, which helps stabilize blood sugar and support weight control.

White rice is not a food harmful to the liver if used properly. However, eating too much white rice for a long time can increase the risk of fat accumulation in the liver and affect metabolic health.

A balanced diet, diverse foods and controlled portion sizes are key to protecting a healthy liver for a long time.
