Housewives are the ones who directly prepare daily meals, so choosing and balancing food plays an important role in protecting kidney health for family members.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. BS Bui Thi Nhung - Vice President of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, Head of the Nutrition Department of Sun Hospital, an unbalanced diet or excessive protein intake for a long time can cause the kidneys to work harder.
Below are foods that housewives should not abuse to protect their kidneys.
1. Protein-rich, protein-rich foods
Each family member should not consume too much meat and protein-rich foods for a long time.
When the amount of protein intake exceeds the needs, the kidneys must strengthen the elimination of protein metabolites, thereby increasing the burden on this organ. Protein is still necessary but should be supplemented at a moderate level according to the body's needs.
2. Abuse of protein supplements
Products such as protein powder, whey protein or protein supplements should only be used when really necessary. Self-supplement for a long time, especially in athletes, can cause the amount of protein introduced into the body to exceed the needs.
Experts recommend that these products should only be used with the advice of a doctor or nutritionist.
3. Extreme diet
Diets that lose too much protein, sharply reduce carbohydrates, or imbalance between substance groups can affect kidney function.
According to experts, everyone should not follow dieting trends when they have not researched carefully or have not been consulted. A balanced diet is still a suitable choice to protect health.
4. Eating excess of body needs
Experts said that there have been cases of applying a diet of 0.5kg to 1kg of meat per day for 1-2 months, leading to abnormalities in kidney function. Consuming food in excessive quantities for a long time does not bring health benefits but also increases metabolic pressure.
People should build a diet that is just enough, diverse and suitable for daily nutritional needs to contribute to protecting kidney function.
