When love faces opposition from family, many couples fall into a state of tension, stagnation and disorientation.
The cause is often not only the feelings between the two, but also comes from differences in perspective, point of view and anxiety about human values.
Psychologist Nguyen Manh Cuong - NHC Vietnam Human Development and Psychology Center - has given some important tips to help couples reduce stress, maintain emotional balance and find the right solution for the relationship.
- Instead of reacting harshly or avoiding, young people need to learn to listen to their parents' concerns, acknowledge their feelings and show that they understand why parents cannot be assured.
- Listening is not about giving up position. When children show calmness, confidence and consistency in their choice of feelings, parents will gradually realize that this is not an impromptu decision.
- Another effective way to communicate is to proactively meet in person between both families. This helps shorten the gap, reduce misunderstandings and limit judgment through indirect narration.
When meeting in person, parents have the opportunity to see more clearly the other person's human nature, instead of just looking at external factors such as circumstances, career or origin.
- Proactively demonstrate your results and maturity. seriousness in studying, work, future orientation and a responsible attitude towards relationships are the most convincing proof. This helps parents gradually shift from anxiety to trust, from opposition to observation and consideration.
Expert Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized that it is important to avoid letting parents get caught up in worries that do not reflect human values, such as material conditions or social prejudices.
When communication focuses on qualities, personality and independent abilities, the gap in perception will be significantly narrowed, the expert said.
Finally, effective communication is a way to get closer to different perspectives. When parents clearly understand human nature and values, the relationship will have more opportunities to be viewed as fairer, more humane and more open.
